Client work completed with The Work Department
Detroit Environmental Agenda brought together organizations working across public health, sustainability, neighborhood development, climate, and environmental justice. The coalition needed stronger internal systems, clearer ways to work together, and more accessible tools for educating residents and influencing local decision-making.
I helped plan and support more than 40 coalition and subcommittee meetings, develop meeting structures and decision-making tools, document conversations, and synthesize member input into shared priorities and action steps. The process helped members move from broad concern to coordinated work through smaller action teams and clearer project management practices.
I also helped develop resident-facing communications that translated complex environmental policy issues into plain language. This included website and social media content, voter guides, candidate questionnaires, “get out the vote” materials, one-pagers on environmental ordinances and plans, and materials supporting resident participation in the City of Detroit’s Sustainability Action Agenda process.
The work strengthened the coalition’s internal capacity, amplified community concerns, and helped connect grassroots environmental justice priorities to citywide sustainability planning.
